Every entrepreneur starts out wearing every hat.

You're the salesperson.

The marketer.

The customer service representative.

The bookkeeper.

The operations manager.

The CEO.

In the early stages of business, doing everything yourself is often necessary.

But eventually, the very habits that helped you build your business become the ones that limit its growth.

On this episode of The Six Figure Plus Club, I sat down with Rio Radice, founder of Restful, to talk about leadership, delegation, company culture, and what it really takes to build a business that can grow beyond its founder.

Although Rio leads a software company serving the dental sleep medicine industry, the lessons shared in this conversation apply to entrepreneurs in every field.

From learning to trust a team to implementing systems that create accountability, this episode is full of practical insights for business owners ready to move from working in their business to leading it.

Here are some of the biggest takeaways from our conversation, "The Leadership Shift Every Growing Business Needs with Rio Radice."

Growing a Business Requires Becoming a Different Leader

Starting a business and scaling a business require two very different skill sets.

In the beginning, success often comes from doing everything yourself.

But as your business grows, your role has to evolve.

Instead of completing every task, your focus shifts to:

  • Leading people

  • Making strategic decisions

  • Building systems

  • Creating a vision for the future

Rio shared that one of the biggest transitions in entrepreneurship was learning to spend less time working in the business and more time working on it.

Growth happens when the owner becomes the leader.

Delegate the Tasks That Don't Require You

One of the most practical lessons from our conversation was around delegation.

Rio evaluates work by asking where their time creates the greatest return.

If someone else can complete a task more efficiently, that responsibility should be delegated.

This creates space for the business owner to focus on the work that only they can do.

Delegation isn't about giving away responsibility.

It's about investing your time where it has the greatest impact.

Great Leaders Build Trust, Not Control

Many entrepreneurs struggle with letting go because they fear things won't be done the same way they would do them.

Rio admitted this was a challenge early on.

Over time, they learned that trust is built through transparency, accountability, and allowing people the opportunity to learn.

That means accepting that mistakes will happen.

A team cannot grow if they are never given the opportunity to make decisions.

Leadership is less about controlling every outcome and more about creating an environment where people can succeed.

Culture Is Your Greatest Competitive Advantage

When people think about measuring business success, revenue is often the first metric that comes to mind.

Rio looks somewhere else.

Team culture.

One of the accomplishments Rio is most proud of is maintaining exceptional employee retention by creating an environment where people genuinely enjoy coming to work.

That culture didn't happen by accident.

It was built intentionally through communication, trust, and shared purpose.

A healthy culture creates a healthy business.

Hire for Character, Train for Skill

One of the most refreshing perspectives Rio shared was the belief that great people are often more valuable than perfect job descriptions.

Instead of forcing talented employees into rigid roles, Rio prefers to adapt responsibilities to fit people's strengths whenever possible.

Technical skills can be developed.

Character, attitude, and cultural fit are much harder to teach.

When you invest in the right people, they often grow alongside your business.

Systems Create Freedom

As businesses grow, relying on memory and good intentions eventually stops working.

Rio credits much of the company's growth to implementing the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS).

Using clear accountability, weekly leadership meetings, and 90-day priorities helped the team stay aligned while giving every department ownership over their results.

Systems don't remove flexibility.

They create consistency.

And consistency allows businesses to scale.

Let Go to Grow

Growth often requires letting go.

Sometimes that means letting go of old responsibilities.

Sometimes it means letting go of relationships that no longer align with where the business is headed.

And sometimes it means letting go of the belief that you have to be involved in every decision.

Rio shared that every stage of business requires releasing something in order to create space for what's next.

Letting go isn't losing control.

It's making room for growth.

Leadership Can Feel Lonely

One of the more honest parts of our conversation was discussing the loneliness that often comes with leadership.

Business owners carry responsibilities that employees never see.

They make difficult decisions.

They navigate uncertainty.

They often feel isolated.

Rio emphasized the importance of building professional relationships with mentors, accountability partners, and other entrepreneurs who understand those challenges.

Leadership becomes much more sustainable when you don't try to carry it alone.

Decisions Build Momentum

Many entrepreneurs spend too much time analyzing decisions.

Waiting.

Researching.

Second-guessing.

Rio shared that learning to make decisions more quickly has helped the business continue moving forward.

Not every decision will be perfect.

But action creates feedback.

Momentum is almost always more valuable than perfection.

Final Thoughts: Great Businesses Are Built Through Great Leadership

Every entrepreneur reaches a point where working harder is no longer the answer.

The next level of growth comes from becoming a stronger leader.

That means trusting your team.

Building systems.

Creating accountability.

Protecting your company culture.

And focusing your time where it creates the greatest impact.

As Rio shared throughout our conversation, sustainable growth isn't about doing more yourself.

It's about building a business that can thrive because of the people, systems, and leadership you've put in place.
